Happy “National Pay Equality Day” Michigan!
So as I pulled into the parking lot at work today the radio jockey continues to read the news headlines. This one catches my attention…”Michigan women are angered and taking it to the Legislature. Michigan ranks as one of the worst for gender discrimination in the wage department.” (And we have a female Governor; you would think the men of Michigan were more evolved because of this fact!)
We are not judged by color because black and white women make the same amount of pay. We are merely judged on our genitalia. Sheesh, if it will get me $0.30 more an hour, I’ll wear a strap on to work every damn day people! And I am sure most of my female co-workers and friends would gladly do the same. Studies show men are still paid $0.31 more on average than women. That is $12 a week and nearly $50 a month. This would fill my gas tank for a week to get to the job I am underpaid at because of my vagina! In my experience men are so stressed by dealing with personal life issues like cooking, cleaning, parenting, and the like that they really need this extra money so financial woes do not compound their already overly busy and stressful lives. Wait! That is us women not men! So why in the hell am I not making that $0.30? Believe me I need it a lot more than some bachelor playboy with no responsibilities in life! This is why he will be sailing his yacht and living comfortable at 70 and I will still be dragging my arse to a job everyday pulling my oxygen tank along beside me. Yep, the working women in my grand state of Michigan are pissed off and rightly so! This is a huge problem that needs a remedy and fast.
